1 2 3 Super Empowered ! Is a Rich Language Infusion Approach to Education
1 2 3 Super Empowered ! is a writing-first literacy system that helps children build strong language foundations early. It gives teachers and families a simple way to help children organize their thoughts, tell their stories, and see themselves as capable learners and authors from the very beginning.
This work is deeply personal to me. As a mother of a gifted daughter and a dyslexic son, and as an educator who has worked with children in both high-performing and Title I schools, I understand how overwhelming learning can feel when children do not have the structure they need. I also understand how deeply parents want to help, even when they do not know where to begin.
1 2 3 Super Empowered ! was created to make that support easier. It works alongside what teachers and families are already doing, not as “one more thing,” but as a clear and simple system that brings language, writing, confidence, and understanding together.
The system supports all learners, including gifted students, dual-language learners, children in special education, Title I students, and children who simply need a clearer path. It also gives teachers and families a meaningful way to see and celebrate growth over time.
At its heart, 1 2 3 Super Empowered ! is about hope. When we reduce the overwhelm and give children a structure for their thinking, they begin to believe, “I can do this.” That confidence changes everything.
See What Kids Are Saying About Miss Tonya
Why Writing Before Reading?
Research in brain development and literacy shows that children benefit when they learn to organize language before they are expected to read independently. When children are supported in telling their ideas out loud, seeing those ideas written down, and learning how stories and sentences fit together, they begin to understand how language works.
This helps children see how ideas connect, what comes first, what comes next, and how a thought can come to a clear ending. Instead of asking children to figure out reading, writing, spelling, and handwriting all at once, this approach gives them a simple structure that makes learning feel more manageable.
With support, children begin to build stronger thinking, stronger language, and stronger confidence. Reading and writing become less overwhelming because children already understand that words carry meaning, ideas have structure, and their own stories matter.
At its heart, writing-first instruction helps children believe, “I can do this.” It gives them a path into literacy that begins with success, confidence, and authorship from the very beginning.
I Discovered the Magic of Reading and Writing With Miss Tonya in Preschool
Take a look at this inspiring testimonial from one of Miss Tonya’s former students, now a proud high school graduate and certified in dual language.
As parents and educators, this is what we strive for: to nurture confident, capable learners from the very beginning and equip them with the tools they need to thrive.
When we see every child as the gifted individual they truly are, everything begins to shift, especially in New Mexico, where early recognition can help transform our future and improve our national education ranking.

In this video, the mother explains the methods Miss Tonya used to teach her daughter are highly effective because she used to be incredibly shy and serious. She had difficulties learning and the puppets (click for more info about puppets) were incredibly helpful with her communication, reading and learning the proper sounds of letters. While she was playing, she was also learning. She says that Tonya is a wonderful teacher who cares about her students in all aspects. She is very happy with what her daughter learned in preschool.

Friends Who Make Learning Visible
Miss Tonya intentionally uses a wide array of tools to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of different learners. From hands-on boards and picture-based storytelling to puppets, foldables, and visual organizers, each tool is designed to make thinking visible and language accessible. These supports allow children to organize ideas, express themselves confidently, and engage in learning regardless of reading level, language background, or learning differences. By offering multiple visual entry points, Miss Tonya ensures that every child has a way in building confidence, understanding, and a love of learning from the very beginning.

Literacy
Helping children understand how language works first through oral language, storytelling, visual structure, and writing, so reading and writing become more meaningful, accessible, and confidence-building.

Writing
Helping children organize their ideas first through storytelling, visual structure, and adult support, so writing becomes a clear, confident expression of what they already know and want to say.

Mathematics
Helping children use language to explain their thinking, organize steps, describe patterns, and turn problem-solving into something they can see, say, understand, and communicate with confidence.

Science
Helping children observe, describe, question, compare, and explain what they notice, turning hands-on experiences into organized scientific language, clear thinking, and confident communication.
